MEET HEATHER
POSTPARTUM DOULA
Heather Putman
Practical, compassionate support for the beautifully messy transition into life with a new baby.
HI, I’M HEATHER.
I'm a mom of four, ranging in age from 16 to 32, and I spent nearly 20 years running a successful dayhome. Between raising my own family, supporting countless children and parents over the years, and continuing my education and training, becoming a postpartum doula feels like a natural next chapter.
When my husband and I welcomed our first child, we were very young. We're both adoptees, which meant newborns weren't just new to us-they were new to our whole family. We muddled through while we (and our moms!) learned everything for the first time. I couldn't have put it into words then, but looking back, I know how much it would have meant to have someone come alongside us. With the right support, maybe those early months could have been a little less about surviving and a little more about relaxing, laughing and even thriving.
That experience has stayed with me. Parenting is messy. It's loud and chaotic and joyful-and sometimes, it isn't. Every family's journey looks different, and I bring empathy, openness, practical experience and a healthy dose of humour into the families I support.
I have a particular interest in helping families navigate life beyond the new baby, too: preparing siblings, setting boundaries, navigating challenging behaviours and building positive relationships within the family. I also have training and experience supporting children with disabilities and am passionate about helping families find strategies that work for their unique needs.
“Parenting is messy. It’s loud and chaotic and joyful—and sometimes it isn’t.”
Whatever this season looks like for your family, you don’t have to navigate it alone.
